What is better to use for counter tops butcher block or Granite tile?

I want to have new counter tops I am a very small budget. I like both butcher block and granite even marble I will have to it my self and i want to keep cost way down I have about 40 sq feet of counter top to do so a thin tile is with in my budget but not the $70 per sq foot install I can get the tile for about $3 to $5 per sq foot I do not want to spend any more then $200-$250 tops for the counter tops that is all any one have any ideas or tips for thank tou
