A question about "A Tale of Two Cities" ***SPOILER ALERT***?

Why do the Defarges turn on Dr. Manette and Darnay? I thought they were friends in the beginning. Is it just because, for this sole reason, that Dr. Manette wrote a letter denouncing the Everomonde family? Is that the only reason, because it is pretty weak. Thanks for the help!
