Catholics: What would you do if the Church said you must start fighting for the rights of illegal immigrants?

On July 1, "Governor Dean's Law" goes into effect. The Church so far is aghast as to the harshness and punitive tone of the law.. Priests have been directed to start discussing the flaws in the law. If you were ordered by the Vicar of Christ in Atlanta to rally to the defense of these people what would you do? I am a devout cafeteria Catholic and I would gladly go to jail for the Holy Spirit.
