Im on itunes trying to sync apps onto my itouch 2.2.1, but they wont download onto the itouch!?

Okay, so i got my itouch a couple of days ago and this thing is REALLY confusing! So i download some free apps on itunes (Bible, Do not press the red on, NBA Game Time Lite, Tap Tap Revenge 3, and Voice Changer Plus). Then i try to sync them onto my ipod, so i check them and press apply. Once it finishes loading, the items are unchecked and they didnt download onto my ipod! I tried deleting them and redownloading them, it didnt work. i tried restarting the computer and ipod, didnt work. Please give me something that works!
